Training/educational scholarships

Austin AMFT is pleased to offer scholarship opportunities! Our scholarships are available to Austin area clinicians and students who are in need of financial assistance to access training in couples and family therapy.

Goals of the Austin AMFT Scholarship Program

  1. Offer financial assistance to those who wish to enhance their understanding of the practice of couples and family therapy

  2. Enable therapists to access educational training to further the practice of Marriage and Family Therapy in the Austin community

  3. Promote clinical systemic thinking and distinguish the field of Marriage & Family Therapy as unique and beneficial to the greater Austin community

  4. Foster an environment that appreciates and values an increasingly diverse therapist community




Past Scholarships


One scholarship provides 100% tuition for the foundational EFT training, the EFT Externship in Austin, Texas  September 23-24 and September 30-October 1, 2022.

Mental Health Clinician Scholarship

4-day externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy with Joe X. Cantu

September 23-24 and September 30-October 1, 2022


  • Full scholarship for mental health clinician
  • 2 scholarships available
  • Application Deadline: June 27, 2022 at midnight

Candidates must meet the following criteria:
    1. Texas-licensed mental health professional who is actively providing psychotherapy to couples (must be a post-graduate licensed therapist, such as LMFT Associate, LMFT, LPC, LPC Associate, LMSW, LCSW, PhD, PsyD) | Please note, graduate students or providers without a graduate degree are not eligible to apply. If you are a student, please apply for the Graduate Student Scholarship below.
    2. Have a desire to expand their understanding of EFT to improve their work with couples, individuals, and families
    3. Financial Need - we support applicants who require assistance to pay for the EFT externship
    4. Intention to Practice - we support applicants who have the ability and persistence to complete the training and practice couples therapy in the Austin community
    5. **Austin AMFT board members are not eligible to apply

    Graduate Student Scholarship

    1. Graduate students in last two semesters of counseling program
    2. Have a desire to expand their understanding of EFT to improve their work with couples, individuals, and families
    3. Financial Need - we support applicants who require assistance to pay for the EFT externship
    4. Intention to Practice - we support applicants who have the ability and persistence to complete the training and practice couples therapy in the Austin community
    5. **Austin AMFT board members are not eligible to apply
