Modeling Self-Compassion with Clients Stuck in Shame

Anna Zapata, LPC-S & Nadia Nikah, LPC

Is shame keeping your clients stuck in patterns of self-loathing, harshness, and criticism? Shame makes it difficult for clients to connect with themselves and receive empathy from others. In this presentation, you will learn how to recognize when shame is inhibiting the counseling process and hindering connection between the client and their therapist. You will learn how to model and implement self-compassion in session and empower clients to approach themselves with more kindness and curiosity.

      • When to Recognize when a client is stuck in shame

      • Nervous system based strategies to connect to self-compassion

      • Practical skills to embody self-compassion
