    PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

    What is medical family therapy and how can it be useful to my clients? Medical Family therapy is an interdisciplinary speciality within MFT that enables clinicians to provide resources, support and coordination with the medical community, to meet the needs of clients with new diagnoses, changes in condition and caregiver needs.


    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Understanding what MedFT is and who benefits from this service

    • Learning the magnitude of the effects of illness on the family system

    • Gaining skills to help caregivers manage their own feelings and needs while caring for a sick relative or friend

    • Key talking points when dealing with the medical system

    • Helping clients to get closure with family before the end of life (focus on cut-offs, etc)



    BIOGRAPHY

    Sandi Neiman has worked in healthcare for over 30 years, first as a speech Language pathologist, supervisor, manager, executive and returned to direct clinical care as an MFT. She has expertise working with stroke, dementia and neurological disorders as well as chronic illnesses. Her clinical experiences include systemic family therapy with families approaching the end of life of a loved one, assisting patients with terminal diagnoses feel complete with family members.

    She feels she has the best job in the world and feels grateful to be allowed into the private lives of families dealing with the painful effects of illness.



    This presentation is designed to be useful for all levels of training and experience.
