    PRESENTATION SUMMARY

    Couples in the perinatal period face unique challenges in welcoming a new member into the family while maintaining life as a couple. Along with life adjustments, other factors such as birth trauma and perinatal mood or anxiety disorders may be at play. During this presentation, you'll learn the unique challenges couples face and how to work through them as a couples therapist. You will also learn the signs and symptoms of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders that can affect individuals and couples greatly when they remain undiagnosed.


    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Identify perinatal mood and anxiety disorders within individual clients
    • Learn how perinatal mood and anxiety disorders may show up within a couple
    • Aid couples in navigating adjustment to baby and mood and anxiety disorders within a couple
    • Understand factors that deter couples from intimacy during this stage and aiding a couple in building it back


    BIOGRAPHY

    Ilyse Kennedy is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Clinician. She is the owner of Moving Parts Psychotherapy, a private practice in South Austin. She sees children through adults and specializes in trauma recovery, perinatal mental health, and child & adolescent counseling. She uses a full spectrum approach to trauma recovery with Interpersonal Neurobiology at the helm. She is also a mental health and social justice advocate who shares knowledge on Instagram under the handle @Movingpartspsychotherapy.
