    "Understanding Complicated Grief"

    Presenter: Brittany Neece, LMFT-S, LPC-S

Grief after the death of a loved one or a significant loss can be complex, multifaceted, and time-varying. The grief process reflects the response to what was lost, and the changes that take place with adaptations to the loss. But what happens when we do not, or cannot, adapt to the loss? What are the common obstacles that stand in the way of this adaption process and can lead us into complicated grief reactions?

    Learning Objectives:

    • Attendees will gain insight regarding the differences between acute grief and complicated grief processes.
    • Attendees will increase their understanding of what common obstacles and factors tend to lead someone into a complicated grief experience.
    • Attendees will learn about the natural facilitators that occur for healthy and unhealthy adaptation to loss.
    • Attendees will learn about the 3 tasks that people need to undergo in order to adapt in helpful ways to the loss.
    • Attendees will gain insight into ways to go about working on healthy adaptation to a significant loss.
